HELP NEEDED —April 16, 2016

I have a couple of issues with this deck. In theory every card in it has its place and when it runs it runs, but often times I have terrible issues with certain matchups when even if I had a tutor, I wouldn’t even know what to look for in the deck that could still salvage the situation.

Friends have told me to split the deck up by mechanics it uses and they can basically be summarised as:

  • Pillowforting (Propaganda, Archangel of Tithes, Island Sanctuary)
  • Vigilance (to instill Ojutai’s hexproof and gain access to blocking)
  • Defensive Auras (such as Gift of Immortality, Shielded by Faith etc)
  • Defensive Enchantments (Such as O-Ring, Detention Sphere etc)
  • A little bit of flickering (added just recently with cards such as Venser and Archaeomancer)

I’ve been contemplating to maybe go on a bit more Planeswaker Heavy Play that focuses more on Boardwipes. (I am currently looking to get the SOI Jace for the Curse of Exhaustion Combo)

Some of my favorite Win Conditions thus far are: - “Stolen Identity” (It combos off wonderfully with the opponents field or creatures of my own such as Archangel of Tithes, Windborn Muse or Drogskol Reaver - if a game comes to this point the results are hysteric) - “Sovereigns of Alara” (gives Ojutai Mammoth Umbra first, for Totem Armor on the turn he attacks and remains tapped and thus vulnerable and Vigilance afterwards. Anything from that point onward is game) - “Medomai, the ageless” (who synergises with the Planeswalkers and bringing through Commander Damage)

Problems I’ve already noticed are that the deck is very creature weak (I’ve tried to fix this), so I have issues when playing against Meren’s “Fleshbag Combo” for example. Also - a lot of the cards in the deck enable Vigilance which for Ojutai as a commander is v-i-t-a-l, but if I have Vigilance once, most other Vigilance enabling card I draw are basically dead draws that I would much rather have something else fore (sure, Ojutai’s natural Anticipate Ability helps, but it has let me down in the field practise) I also need more land slots. :/

I’ve been contemplating to maybe try and create some kind of Enginge by including an Isochron Scepter for cards like the Tutor, Extract or Path/Swords to Exile threats like the Fleshbag, but for this I run too little fuel for the Artifact and too little tutors to gain access to the Scepter.

If you take a look at the designated “Sideboard” you’ll find a couple of cards I’ve already tried and experimented with in the past. I still have them at the ready if you think one of those should absolutely be in the deck in favor of another, but I am open to entirely new suggestions as well.

Just look at that “Update” history if you want to get a feeling for all the trouble this build gave me, or… no, better don’t.
