I too ran the Devil, until he decided to take the damage and then run me over with a Goyf. The opponent never takes damage when you need to bring him down, and never let him stay when you need a blocker/aggressor.
But with Mono Red, maybe he'll do some good. I've only had experience with him as a 2 of so maybe the early pressure will help.
