GP Brussels Legacy —Aug. 10, 2018

GP Brussels Legacy 1 (Double-Up) 1-1-1

  1. 2-0 vs LoamPox: What are the odds to start with a mirror match!? He played LoamPox, he played it well, but the reason I'm testing this build is because other Pox builds are to slow. This match proves that point to me as he isn't able to follow the speed with wich I'm playing and beating him down.

  2. 1-1 vs Dreadstill: Game one he had everything under control, I didn't find any answers or threats and it was over quickly, beating me with Delvers. Game 2 two I had a great start, dodging his control I was quickly on the way running 4 ghasts. Game three was a long and grindy match, heavy control from both sides. No room for mistakes were given. I game just to short to finish him off, all thanks to him controlling the situation perfectly because I ran out of juice.

  3. 1-2 vs RUG Delver: RUG Delver is plainly fast! One threat from his side and hard control on me, he finished me off without any problems. Game two I throw a lot at him, making him use up all his control and giving me the chance to finally go for the kill with Ghasts dodging everything. Game three he has the full control package again and when I empty my hand trying to push through I never found anything when I run out of juice again. Likely a problem with the deck to keep in mind.

GP Brussels Legacy 2 1-2

  1. 1-2 vs Burn: I've tested against Burn, I know I can beat them, I just need to be fast and throw lots of disruption at him. Game one I came to short, running on mana screw. Game two I empty his hand a have all Ghasts online, still he managed to get me to six before I top him off. Game three he plays and goes hard, I empty his hand but got no juice left (again), and as Burns does, he topdecks kills me.

  2. 1-2 vs UR Burn: Again a tempo deck, faster then I am. I manage to follow, but not close enough, beaters and burn spells are simply faster. Game 2 I have a perfect hand, early disruption, early threats wich he finds no answers to. Game 3 is a bit of a grind match. He manages to keep my threats from the table, I rip his too. In the end cantrips win the game, giving him answers and my topdeck mode running out of luck.

  3. 2-1 vs Homebrew RUG: I know the deck, I know the guy. It's a homebrew and I know how to beat it. Game one was his, but post board I got all the pieces I needed to beat this deck. He got no answers and I finish him off under the radar.

GP Brussels Legacy 3 1-2

  1. 2-0 vs Death & Taxes: D&T isn't a bad match up for Pox at all. We try to do the same, they with creatures, we with answers to those creatures. I keep the board clean, his hand empty and swing him with Ghasts granting me the 2-0.

  2. 1-2 vs Stoneblade control: The first game was long and grindy, he killed several of my threats and I kept him of his beloved equipment plan. Slowly but sure I take this game home. Post board he has the perfect answers for my deck. Second one he controls the GY and keeps me from playing, I run out of juice again and he takes this one. Game three he has an early Batterskull and that was game!

  3. 0-2 vs Eldrazi: These Eldrazi are fast, I'm not able to clear the board or push through what so ever. Both games I'm just a bystander who isn't able to do anything. Time to study this match up a bit more and come up with a game plan.

I really enjoyed playing this deck, even while losing that much. I have a feeling this deck has potential, but I need to work on it. One of the great problems is running out of gas. Dark Confidant wasn't able to fix that and I often wished it was something else. Buried Alive really did his work, but two copies is too much, I'll have to cut one. I really missed more disruption, Dark Confidant couldn't solve this problem, I'm going to cut down on him, adding more discard and removal. Bitterblossom worked like a charm and Jitte is a winner when on the table. Brainstorming with my friends we made a few changes I'll have to test in the future. A light green splash is a possibility too, but I'm going to keep it mono black for now.
