Zombo Combo

Standard*

Description

This is my Standard take on Soul Sisters. Take advantage of Anointed Procession to churn out tons of tokens to drain with Wayward Servant and / or Plague Belcher. Some of our token generators aren't the best mana investment before you get your Procession down, but our creatures are loaded with value. Low mana creatures like Relentless Dead, and Plague Belcher are great at any stage in the game. Diregraf Colossus gets very beefy in a grindier match, and combos for insane card draw with Cryptbreaker.

It's surprisingly effective! Get out there and eat some brains!

HOO-HOOO

Cryptbreaker

Our most important only 1 drop, Cryptbreaker is a Swiss Army knife that I'm always happy to topdeck. If we need a body but have a fist full of lands he lets us discard for a zombie. If we have a boardstall with a bunch of tokens, tap 'em down and lose a life to dig for gas. Cryptbreaker. Love ya, bud.

Dread Wanderer

Initially I underestimated Dread Wanderer. I have seen the error of my ways. The ETB tapped drawback is a shame, but the ability to unleash the hounds from your graveyard while Heckbent would make the Baha Men proud.

Relentless Dead

That's a lot of words for . Evasive, recursive, and a nifty reanimator, Relentless Dead is a house. isn't always available turn 2 so I've cut this back to 2 copies.

Wayward Servant

The heart of the deck. Wayward Servant supplies us with drain triggers for the plentiful piles of zombie tokens we'll be slamming on the board. In multiples the game should be over shortly even if you can't get through chump blockers. Siding in Dusk / Dawn in matches where they just won't let your zombies do anything can provide big swings out of nowhere if it resolves.

Diregraf Colossus

I like this guy a lot. At first glance I bet you're thinking Diregraf Colossus is a nonbo with tokens. The truth is his job in our deck isn't to be huge-large (although it is not uncommon for him to achieve huge-largeness), it's to make more zombies. We have 23 other zombies that trigger tokens on cast, giving us stupid value off of Cryptbreakers and Dread Wanderer.

Lord of the Accursed

A new zombie lord! Lord of the Accursed pumps up our already formidable 2/2s for a cool . You might not find yourself using his activated ability too often, but it can win games. Tends to be a removal magnet.

Plague Belcher

Big boy. Plague Belcher is a Beast in more ways than one. He kills one of our zombies when we cast him, triggering the first of hopefully many drains. If Diregraf Colossus is already in play we trigger his ability, providing a convenient target for our -1/-1 counters and a drain to boot.

Oh yeah, and he's a 5/4 with menace for .

K.

Anointed Procession

Half of the reason we're playing white. Event if we didn't get amazing Wayward Servant drains from all the tokens we're making, the mobs of the dead can overtake the field with a single spell. 2 zomz from Gisa's Bidding might not seem like a stellar deal for , but 4 zomz is more like it. I don't like to play this on turn 4 most of the time, I'd rather wait until I have a way to get value from it right away. I usually like to cast it after liliana, death's majesty to get double the dudes from her +1.

Liliana's Mastery

Liliana's Mastery is tailor fit for our game-plan. Without Anointed Procession we get 4 power and toughness on the board. With it we get 8. When combined with our pal Lord of the Accursed the scoops are delightfully salty. It takes a lot for a 5 mana enchantment to be worth dropping on an empty board, but I think this gets there.

Dark Salvation

The zombie synergy is getting good now. Dark Salvation can kill most things in the format if you're not getting your dick kicked in, and for as little as . Later in the game we can drop 2-4 zombos, and I hope you're not tired of hearing about it because I'm not done talking about how dope Anointed Procession is, with this and everything else.

Gisa's Bidding

Admittedly not very flashy, Gisa's Bidding naturally unearths 2 dudes, but ideally nets 4. Can be cute with Cryptbreaker's discard ability to madness cheese one 1 more zombie for 1 more mana.

Never / Return

Aftermath has been poo-poo'd pretty hard by the community, trust me when I say this one's perfect for us. Deals with those pesky Gideons and Saheelis, and exiles Scrapheap Scrounger in exchange for 1-2 fresh deadites. A bit steeply priced, but I would include this card for the Never half anyways.

Liliana, Death's Majesty

Oh Lily, I couldn't have asked for a better 'walker to compliment our army of the dead. Makes 1-2 zombies per turn while filling our yard with meat with her +1. Reanimates for a reasonable -3, and a one sided wrath for her ult. Dirty, Lily. Dirty.

I don't have a lot to say about the mana base. Concealed Courtyard is a no brainer. Shambling Vent can help us stall in some situations. Westvale Abbey  Flip is a one of since 5 creatures aren't hard to come by and the Profane Prince will fuck your day up.
With the meta in flux over Cat-Combo getting neutered, our sideboard is going to be pretty dependant on what happens in the next couple of weeks. I chose some different / extra removal for the time being.
So that's my Zombo Combo. I realize it's not a combo deck by the strictest definition. Please respect my right to call my deck whatever I damn well please. Critiques encouraged.

@carter127

I'm sure there's a build that could make good use of Prized Amalgam, I would probably substitute Stir the Sands and Gisa's Bidding. Worth testing!

Nice deck. I was thinking about making an Esper zombies, but this works pretty nicely. I'd probably trade out the Stir the Sands for another liliana, death's majesty, but otherwise a great build. Might even have to try it out. +1

@SpiritoftheSands

You know, after playing with Dread Wanderer a bit at my prerelease I realized I vastly underestimated it! I will be adding 3-4 of them once I figure out what to cut, likely a couple of Relentless Dead to start just due to how mana hungry they can be. They should provide a nice recursive source of drain. I appreciate the feedback!

What about adding Dark Salvation and/or From Under the Floorboards? Possibly even use In Oketra's Name

@ munky702

I can see the appeal of From Under the Floorboards, and it really does fit with what we're trying to do. In my opinion it can feel a little bit awkward to cast. It's a real bummer that the tokens ETB tapped, and while the Madness mode seems like a nice way around this Cryptbreaker is our only discard outlet, and we need to spend 6 total mana to match the normal cast value. We just don't have that kind of mana available the vast majority of the time. For 5 we can cast Liliana's Mastery, which gives us at least 6 power and toughness, and usually quite a bit more.

In Oketra's Name feels like kind of a bland combat trick to me, but I bet I'm underestimating it. I'll have to do some testing. Thanks for the suggestions!

Well id offer Mind Rot but like you've mentioned, it'd be a waste just for that one combo for madness. Well the only other thing i could recommend off of that, for late game that'd be fitting for this deck would be Noosegraf Mob.

Nice zombies! My idea is Throne of the God-Pharaoh, just for life drain after the attack with a group of zombies.

I'm excited for BW Standard zombies! I built my version here>Necropowered Army and playtesting on Tappedout here it has been consistently powerful and I would recommend Binding Mummy because he can easily clear a path for your zombies if you can play at least two zombies or have two binding mummies in play. He gets crazy fast. I personally would only run 1 at the most of Dark Salvation, to replace it, I'd say Stir the Sands. Good luck!

@ FullmetalWes

Thank you for the suggestions! I like your list, but I think we're playing to different strengths with our builds. Yours looks like a more smash-face aggro list where mine tends to shine in the mid-game once more tokens have clogged the board. I'll tool around with Binding Mummy tonight and see how to preforms!

As far as Dark Salvation and Stir the Sands are concerned, I actually started with one of each in my list and cut Stir for another Salvation just due to how often it saved my bacon. Could be off on this just due to not enough matches played, time will tell!

question, why not Binding Mummy and old Lili from EMN? I understand new Lili is great but I believe old lily could be a good Sideboard

Edit:I see binding mummy is being considered but still relevant
