Wort, the Raidmother and Regrowth

Asked by Shimatzu 7 months ago

When using the conspire ability of Wort, the Raidmother alongside cards like Regrowth can i stack it so that the copy returns the original or not? If not, how does the stack order/interaction work here?

For all practical purposes; no, you can not return the card with the copy. There is a complicated way to return the Regrowth with the copy, but it involves countering the regrowth so it serves no purpose besides upping storm count and triggering Magecraft.

The way conspire works is that there is a triggered ability to copy the spell that triggers when the spell is cast. So you will put Regrowth on the stack and then the copy ability will trigger, make the copy, and the copy resolve all before the original resolves. At no point was Regrowth in the graveyard to be a valid target for the copy.

What could technically return the Regrowth with the copy is if the original is countered in response to the conspire trigger. The trigger doesn't target and so will still make a copy despite Regrowth being in the graveyard. Then when the copy is made Regrowth is in the graveyard and can be targeted.
