Moritte Cloning Biowaste Blob?

Asked by Wizno 3 years ago

I have recently constructed a clone oriented deck centered around Moritte of the Frost . As Moritte can clone Biowaste Blob I am unsure of how the layering works with Biowaste Blob 's second line of text. At the beginning of my upkeep would the Moritte copy of the Blob produce an exact copy token with the snow, changeling, and Legendary properties from Morritte or would just a regular Biowaste Blob token copy be produced?

Supertypes, such as Legendary, are copiable values, so when you make a copy of the Legendary Biowaste Blob, it will be Legendary as well. As such, you will be forced to send one to the graveyard as a state-based action due to the Legend rule.

Whenever a card refers to itself by name, it means "this object." Moritte of the Frost will be a legendary snow Biowaste Blob with changeling and two +1/+1 counters. It's still your commander, so the upkeep trigger will work and make a copy. The copy will still be snow and legendary and have changeling, but won't enter with +1/+1 counters (because those came from an ability that Blob Moritte stopped having after it entered the battlefield). Because you now control two legendary Biowaste Blobs you'll have to sacrifice one.

Additionally, the copy of Moritte Blob is not a commander, since commanderness is a property of the card, not the creature.

Thank you Caerwyn and Polaris for your help! I had a hunch the interaction would play out as you both had described but I wanted some additional clarification to ensure I understood every level of the layers and interaction. Thanks again!
