How is Archmage Emeritus and Chain of smog an (near)infinte combo?

Asked by MertaxQ 3 months ago

If I discard two cards to chain of smog but only draw one to archmage emeritus, would I not run out of cards from hand size?

Chain of Smog doesn't require that the target player actually has enough cards to discard. If you target someone with fewer than two cards in hand, they will discard their entire hand (which could be zero). So you can target and re-target yourself, no matter how many cards you have in hand.

Archmage Emeritus lets you draw a card whenever you cast or copy an instant or sorcery. So if you keep targeting yourself with Chain of Smog, you will continually draw a card, then immediately discard and draw another card. This can happen as many times as you choose, filling your graveyard and emptying your library as needed.
