Artifact (1)

Long before I ever really played MtG I had a trilogy of books that I rather enjoyed reading. They were the Magic Legends Cycle Two and within those books were many famous cards, such as Tetsuo Umezawa, Ayesha Tanaka, and Kei Takahashi, and of course several, several others, but those first three were the main characters. One of the several "others" was none other than Xira Arien and she was always pretty cool, though her ability as a card didn't reflect what she did in the books. Anywho, fast forward many, many years and then I stumble upon a retrained version of Xira in Xira, the Golden Sting. Now her new ability fully reflected what she did in the books, what with infecting Kei and having him turn into some kind of insect creature. Needless to say, I really wanted to make a deck around her to fullfil a bit of nostalgia.

I feel like this deck is one of the more interesting creations of mine and I'm fairly proud of it. It actually has some removal! Now I generally don't bother with that, but I felt it was fitting since in the books Xira is an assassin. There are a few cool interactions in this deck, mainly centering on the commander, of course. Xira, the Golden Sting is aggressive and wants to constantly attack, and so that's what this deck aims to do, constantly attack and build up pressure and if at all possible out draw any blue deck out there. XD

One of the more interesting combos that you can achieve is Xira, the Golden Sting + Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons. With these two you can place an egg counter on a creature and then a -1/-1 counter on the same creature, possibly killing said creature and creating a 1/1 flying insect and a 1/1 deathtouch snake. Alternatively, if you already have a -/1 creature yourself you can place the egg counter on that creature, then hit it with the -1/-1 counter and have a guaranteed two tokens.

As additional synergy with the above combo, if you have Nest of Scarabs + Parallel Lives out on the field, you will be generating 2 Scarabs and then the obvious flying insects + deathtouch snakes.

Yet another interesting combo is when you have the above cards out on the field, plus: Yawgmoth, Thran Physician + Blood Artist/Zulaport Cutthroat. You can continuously trigger Yawgmoth to place -1/-1 counters, ping for 1 and gain 1, then create more tokens to sacrifice to Yawgmoth. This works even better when you have your super-draw Korvold, Fae-Cursed King out on the field.

One last cool thing is if you can get out Kulrath Knight your opponent's won't be able to attack/block with the creatures you've "impregnated" with Xira, the Golden Sting.

Like I said above, there are lots of little cool things you can do and interesting combos you can achieve. This is a fun deck for me to play on Forge (no physical cards owned) and playing against the bots this deck does very well, against other people however... I have no idea. XD If anyone ever tries this deck out, you should tell me how it does.

Swapped Persist for Regrowth, because... I kept forgetting that Persist can only bring back nonlegendaries. Plus this way you can get back any piece you need instead of just creatures.
