Scrap Welder

Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer is a wandering Goblin surviving on his wit and ingenuity. This deck shows off his offbeat Goblin resourcefulness with artifacts, indestructibility, and the graveyard to create game-winning combos from scrap.

  • If combat damage is not possible due to blockers or control, there aren't many win conditions available to aggro decks that have reach or can target multiple opponents at once.
  • Most combat based win conditions can be generic. The combos here are a unique fit to the signature artifact sacrifice theme.
  • The combos in this deck are fair in that they require 3 or more permanents on the battlefield, making it fragile and open to disruption. Graveyard hate also completely shuts off the deck and must be answered to win.

  • You enjoy finding unique ways to assemble win conditions in each game.
  • You like playing artifacts and graveyard manipulation in unconventional colors.
  • A commander as a cheap sacrifice outlet that protects your most valuable permanents is appealing to you.
  • In a wide fantasy universe with dragons and wizards and all manner of exotic beings to choose from, crafty goblins who tinker with metal machines is the theme for you.

  • You prefer multicolor commanders with ramp or card advantage built in.
  • You dislike goblins or artifacts.
  • Winning with a combo is not your style.

  • Explosive.
  • Unpredictable.
  • Resilient.
  • Excellent replay value.

  • Low interactivity.
  • Vulnerable to counterspells and graveyard hate.

Steps:
1. Tap Mox Opal for and sacrifice it to Krark-Clan Ironworks to generate .
2. Announce that you’re activating Chromatic Sphere. As part of the process of activating an ability, you get a chance to activate mana abilities. So sacrifice Myr Retriever and Krark-Clan Ironworks to generate , bringing you up to and .
3.This triggers Myr Retriever and Scrap Trawler’s ability to trigger for Krark-Clan Ironworks and Myr Retriever. It will also trigger for Chromatic Sphere when that gets sacrificed as the costs to activate its ability are paid. Paying the to activate this ability brings us down to total, one of which is . Note: All those triggered abilities don’t go on the stack right away. They wait until a player is about to get priority, which in this case means right after we finish with Chromatic Sphere’s ability. Since Chromatic Sphere has a mana ability, it resolves right away, before players get priority. This draws us a card and brings us back to , two of which are . Because choosing targets for a triggered ability happens as part of the process of putting the ability on the stack, Myr Retriever, Krark-Clan Ironworks, and Chromatic Sphere will all be in your graveyard when you are choosing what to return with your Scrap Trawler and Myr Retriever triggers.
4. Return Myr Retriever to hand with the Scrap Trawler trigger from Krark-Clan Ironworks going to the graveyard, return Chromatic Sphere with the Scrap Trawler trigger from Myr Retriever dying, and return Krark-Clan Ironworks with the Myr Retriever trigger from itself dying.
5. We also will return Mox Opal to hand with the Scrap Trawler trigger from Chromatic Sphere. Then we’ll use our to replay Krark-Clan Ironworks, Myr Retriever, and Chromatic Sphere, which puts us exactly where we started, but with an extra card in hand from Chromatic Sphere’s ability.
6. Repeat until you draw combo pieces needed to win. Then continue to next step for infinite mana.
7. Sacrifice Myr Retriever and Krark-Clan Ironworks in the process of casting a spell. Once you get a Junk Diver or Workshop Assistant in the loop, the extra return triggers generate infinite mana.
8. Starting with all your artifacts in play, you just need to activate Pyrite Spellbomb’s “2 damage” ability (targeting an opponent) and sacrifice Myr Retriever and Krark-Clan Ironworks as part of the process of activating this ability. As before, return Krark-Clan Ironworks with the Myr Retriever dying trigger, then return Pyrite Spellbomb with the Scrap Trawler trigger for Myr Retriever and return Myr Retriever with the Scrap Trawler trigger for Krark-Clan Ironworks.
