Megatron, Destructive Force

Legendary Artifact — Vehicle

Living metal (As long as it's your turn, this Vehicle is also a creature.)

Whenever Megatron attacks, you may sacrifice another artifact. when you do, Megatron deals damage equal to the sacrificed artifact's converted mana cost/mana value to target creature. If excess damage would be dealt to that creature this way, instead that damage is dealt to that creature's controller and you transform Megatron.

Megatron, Destructive Force  Flip

The ability says "If excess damage would be dealt to that creature this way..." you only do what comes after that if the clause is true. He will only convert if the creature was dealt excess damage. If, when the trigger tries to resolve, the target is not legal the ability will fizzle and no damage will be dealt.
