Shimatsu the Bloodcloaked. A mono-red legend from the low power and experimental block following Mirrodin. His specialty? Being able to eat ANY permanents in play. That's right; mono-red can interact with enchantments now, lads, Magic has truly lost its color identity. /s

Unironically, Shimatsu the Bloodcloaked can do some very powerful things in the right situations which no other commander can. This deck aims to create those situations and exploit them as much as possible. Summoning Station with a bunch of rocks in play? Turn 'em into Pinchers and get a strong creature while you're at it. Wildfire? Sac all your lands and creatures that would die anyway. Blasphemous Act + Repercussion? You take 13 damage. Spiteful Repossession? Slap my head and call me silly, Shimatsu does it again. When he isn't breaking parity, he watches from his snowy mountaintop as the cogs in the mono-red artifact machine turn. Untap abuse, treasures and topdeck manipulation.

basically some attempts to validate the decision of making shimatsu the commander (and other things found during that process)

I was browsing magic art last night, looking for illustrations that represented strength, determination, or a frenzy which naturally lead back to the Kamigawa block. A few artists later and I ended up at Pain Kami. What's not to love? The art features a screaming starfish fella surrounded by mouth spirits, and the flavor text is a quote from an akki. I have an appreciation for creatures lacking features like eyes & noses so I was immediately drawn to the little fellas. The one on the bottom of the artwork looks like he's a good bit calmer than his buddies. "Beeeeh... I dunno 'bout this, guys. we've been, like, yellin' at these guys for 10 minutes and my voice is starting to fade. can we give it a break? I don't think they're in on this and I need some vitamin water." Maybe he'd just float off. Are these spirits surrounded by blood or nerve endings...? I dunno, but living with exposed nerve endings would make me shout all the time too.

Anyways, I don't think they'd work well as either a rule 0 commander or a pauper one. Both would be rough... after a bit more searching though I remembered Shimatsu the Bloodcloaked, who also has little mouth fellas in their artwork! Their design interested me back when I started playing for their ability to directly sacrifice any type of permanent en-masse, but red had far less tools then than it does now. Anyways, the current state of magic makes me confident that a playable, maybe even "good" build of Shimatsu can be made, and that's what I'm going for here. Goldfishing has been pretty solid thus far, will see how it does in standard 4p.

General gameplan so far is getting 9-10 mana then floating it all before playing Shimatsu the Bloodcloaked > Wildfire or Destructive Force. Or just amassing treasures with any of red's dumb new options. Matzalantli, the Great Door   can get around the normally very relevant downside of sacrificing every land the deck has in play, and Spiteful Repossession (copied 1-2x, ideally) and Repercussion combos can do stuff too...
