Sideboard

Greeting fellow Planeswalkers, my Wife, kmall3170, has decided to get into modern and we have been playing around with some deck ideas that would be fun and relevant to the format. She has decidedly found that she really enjoys Golgari/Witherbloom you get the idea! Rather than go with the traditional Rock deck, we decided to build Aristocrats with some great supporting spells and control spells to help us win very quickly! With the release of Strixhaven, many interesting cards have arrived to make Aristocrats viable and you can really take people by surprise!

Aristocrats is an Tempo Deck with Midrange and even Combo elements. The deck functions using a sacrifice engine of 3 parts:

Utilizing this engine together, you can siphon your opponent for lethal out of nowhere by midgame. This Witherbloom/Golgari version utilities the great removal that makes The Rock great!

Hand Control:

Removal:

Value Generators, search and draw:

  • 2x Liliana, Heretical Healerfoil   acts as a mostly better Liliana of the Veil in this deck. Due to the sacrifice engine, she is very easy to transform in this deck and start getting value. Her first ability is shared with Lili of the Veil, but is +2 instead, making her Ultimate a viable option. Her reanimator ability is also a great option for getting back key pieces of the sacrifice engine.
  • Grim Tutor gives the deck much needed search power to find whatever you need at any given time.
  • Plumb the Forbiddenfoil gives the deck card draw and acts as a piece to the sacrifice engine. You can use this card to sacrifice a bunch of creatures at once for a ton of damage to push for game if you have the sacrifice payoffs out.

The Infinite Combo: An infinite damage combo can be found in the deck that can take games if your opponent doesn't have an answer. Yawgmoth, Thran Physician can sacrifice a Young Wolf or Strangleroot Geist. If you resolve the sacrificed creature's effect before Yawgmoth's, you can give the sacrificed creature a -1/-1 counter and nullify both counters for an infinite sacrifice loop. As long as you also have a Blood Artist or Zulaport Cutthroat on the field, you will also have an infinite damage loop. You can also use the sacrifice loop to draw into one of sacrifice payoffs if needed. Quite easy to accomplish, but is not the only win con in the deck.

Sideboard: Our Sideboard is full of more removal, Graveyard Hate and Hand Destruction. Pick your poison against what you need, but don't spread yourself too thin by taking out the sacrifice engine cards. Adjust your sideboard more for how you would like to play if you need to!

TL;DR Aristocrats is a Tempo Deck with Midrange and Combo elements. The deck functions using a sacrifice engine composed of Fodder, Outlets and Payoffs to combo off and win the game. It is supported by selective Hand Destruction and efficient removal spells that get even more expanded in the Sideboard.
