Weatherlight Crew (Sisay)

Commander / EDH

Maybeboard

A lightweight Sisay combo deck with a twist of Legend Tribal inspired by The Weatherlight Saga.

The original Skyship Weatherlight crew consisted of (first printings): Gerrard Capashen, Captain Sisay, Hanna, Ship's Navigator, Orim, Samite Healer, Multani, Maro-Sorcerer, Ertai, Wizard Adept, Tahngarth, Talruum Hero, Squee, Goblin Nabob, Mirri, Cat Warrior, Crovax the Cursed, Karn, Silver Golem, Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary (BANNED in EDH) and Starke of Rath.

Combos/Synergies:

The payoff for the "play every creature in your deck" strategy would be Purphoros, God of the Forge, but requires double WUBRG because Purphoros does not enter as a creature so it won't trigger Intruder Alarm in the second scenario.

  • If Intruder Alarm and a non-summoning sick Jegantha, the Wellspring are out with less than 5 lands/no WUBRG, depending on Sisay's power we have options to get double WUBRG to get Purphoros for the win --> If Sisay has 4 power (Jegantha on the field gives her this) we can search for Derevi, Empyrial Tactician to untap Jegantha on ETB. Jegantha + Derevi makes Sisay's power 6, so we can now tap Jegantha and search for Samut, Voice of Dissent to give our creatures haste, and will also untap Jegantha on ETB from Intruder Alarm. We repeat this process and find either Esika, God of the Tree   or Katilda, Dawnhart Prime and some other legendary/human creatures so we can tap all of our creatures for mana and get 2 activation triggers to fetch Purphoros (who will not trigger Intruder Alarm) and another creature that WILL trigger the alarm to let us continue to play every creature in our deck and win from Purphoros ETB's.

  • Sisay, Weatherlight Captain + Esika, God of the Tree   + Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy + 6 lands = swing with all 3 creatures, who have vigilance from Esika, then tap all 3 to make 6 mana (from Kinnan) of three unique colors. Then tap 2 lands and use 3 of the unique floating mana colors to pull out Najeela, the Blade-Blossom. 3 mana should still be floating, so we will use that 3 mana and 2 more lands to activate Najeela's ability and untap our original 3 creatures. Now tap those 3 creatures again for a total of 6 mana of 3 unique colors. Using 3 of those unique colors and tap our last 2 lands to activate Najeela again and untap our attacking creatures. At this point we should have 3 floating mana of unique colors in our mana pool. Once we tap our creatures for a third time, we have a total of 9 floating mana with all 5 colors. We now have infinite mana and combat steps and can fetch out our entire deck and win before combat damage even happens.

  • The above combo is also possible with only 3 lands as follows: Sisay, Weatherlight Captain + Esika, God of the Tree   + Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy + ANY other legendary creature (all need to be able to tap/attack in this turn).

  • Jegantha, the Wellspring + Najeela, the Blade-Blossom + Derevi, Empyrial Tactician = Infinite combats if Derevi can connect. Derevi swings --> tap Jegantha for Najeela activation mana --> then let Derevi deal combat damage which will untap Jegantha --> rinse and repeat.

THE CHAIN: What are we fetching first? Well one of the weaknesses of this deck is being able to trigger Sisay early with 1 or 0 CMC creatures which we don't have. Our chain requires a 3 power Sisay which requires 1 other legendary permanent on the field when we activate Sisay for the first time. Let's assume we are on turn 4 with Sisay in play, 1 legendary permanent to bring Sisay's power to 3, and WUBRG (5) mana available:

Backup Fetch: Winning with The World Tree - Fetch Skyship Weatherlight to fetch Maskwood Nexus (be careful that if the Weatherlight is destroyed before pulling MN off it, we can no longer use this win con) --> need to wait for a land tutor such as Crop Rotation, Sylvan Scrying or Expedition Map to get us The World Tree unless we happen to draw it. Then we just need double WUBRG and Maskwood on field and we have the game from Purphoros ETBs.. or infinite combat at that point if there's any disruption.
