Sudden Spoiling

Instant

Split second (As long as this spell is on the stack, players can't cast spells or activated abilities that aren't mana abilities.)

Until end of turn, creatures target player controls lose all abilities and have base power and toughness 0/2.

Hmmm, ok that's true... I will cut Hero's Downfall, thanks for the explaination

I really like Sudden Spoiling, but you're right, since it doesn't destroy anything, it doesn't fit so well in a deck, that wants to destroy... ^^

But I like that the card affects ALL enemy creatures... All my Sorceries and Instants destroy just 1 card, so I dont get any card advantage... Do you know some cards, that fit in my deck and destroy multible targets?

Thank you zapyourtumor for all your advices

Please can you explain, why Sudden Spoiling and Hero's Downfall are not playable in Modern? I thought they are good cards... In my oppinion Sudden Spoiling is such a powerfull card, and its an Instant, so I can use it for both attack and defense

Once I had 4x Blightning in my deck, but I needed the place for other cards... Its a cool card, but yeah, you're right... with just 1 card like that unfortunately it doesnt fit well anymore in my deck. I will cut it

Yes i know, most deathtouch decks are BG, but I wanted to try something else when I started building the deck... ^^

Thanks again for all the tips, I'm deffinitiv gonna try some of your cards... Lets see

Since both Titania's Song and March of the Machines specify noncreature artifact they are both dependent on eachother, forming a dependency loop that means they must be applied in timestamp order rather than dependency order. This means that whichever entered the battlefield first is the one that applies. In the first example March of the Machines does nothing since Sol Ring is already a 1/1 artifact creature with no abilities, but if it had entered first it would be a 1/1 artifact creature with ": Add ."

Starfield of Nyx does not turn itself into a creature since it says "other nonaura enchantements." However, assuming they control two Starfield of Nyx it would be a 0/2 creature with no abilities. This is because its ability starts to apply in layer 4 when it turns enchantments into creatures and doesn't lose its ability until layer 6 when Sudden Spoiling starts to apply. Once the ability starts in an earlier layer, it will continue to be applied in a higher layer, so in layer 7b Starfield of Nyx will give all enchantment creatures a base power and toughness, then that will be overwritten by Sudden Spoiling also in layer 7b due to having a later timestamp.

Player A controls a Sol Ring, player B casts Titania's Song; Player A's Sol Ring becomes a 1/1 artifact creature with no abilities.

If player A then casts a March of the Machines, since Titania's Song specifies non-creature artifact, does March of the Machines change the artifacts into creatures, causing them to retain their abilities?

What would happen if the reverse was true? Player A controls both Sol Ring and March of the Machines, then Player B casts Titania's Song?

Follow-up question.

If Player A controls Starfield of Nyx (meeting its condition, causing their enchantments to become creatures with power and toughness equal to their converted mana cost in addition to their other types), and Player B cast Sudden Spoiling (causing creatures to lose their abilities), what would the result be?

Would all enchantments controlled by Player A lose all abilities and become 0/2 creatures - or, since the Starfield of Nyx would lose its ability, they would remain enchantments with their innate abilities but not be creatures in addition to their other types?

Fear, Fire, Foes!, Everlasting Torment , Shadowspear, Smite the Deathless, Sudden Spoiling, Leyline of Punishment. Good ways to get around protection, indestructible, and similarly annoying mechanics!

wideline1414 I typically get Teysa, Orzhov Scion out early for value and creature exile. The only silver bullet I have is Necrotic Sliver. I count Elspeth, Sun's Champion, Grave Pact, and Dictate of Erebos as mass removal.

I have consider running some more in hand instant speed stuff. Sudden Spoiling has put in so much work for me over the years. I know its not removal but I have a Teferi's Protection in a deck that I do not play much.

In my meta this deck has pulled off a lot of come from behind wins.

@capwner I actually just had a FNM tonight and played this deck (but my Shriekmaw/Slaughter Pact/Sudden Spoiling/Grim Discovery are still in the mail... so instead I was running a playset of Bloodghast and some ratio of Liliana's Triumph/Sheoldred's Edict/Augur of Skulls... I will update this deck with the matchup results next week when I get the missing cards in.

Tonight I played against yawg and Rhinos and had a bye.... In the yawgmoth matchup One of the games I just got absolutely blown out by Force of Vigor getting rid of my both The Rack/Shrieking Afflictions and both of us were in topdeck mode but I ended up losing. I went 1-2 for both the games I played tonight; granted I lost but they were close/winnable I swear!

I have been toying with the idea of Cabal Coffers but The real monkey wrench of the deck is Smallpox and Liliana of the Veil... some games I can get 5 lands in play but other times its a struggle to get/keep 3; I think thats why I like Ghost Quarter simply because there isn't any investment to use it.

It's sweet how budget this list is! I have no idea how good 8 rack is in modern right now but I could see it being rough without access to some of the big haymakers that Coffers has, are you finding that you can get under decks like Yawg and Titan? Would love to see some matchup specific info in your description. Sudden Spoiling is a sweet card btw. Have you considered running Field of Ruin, Demolition Field, Sunken Citadel? These cards are affordable and can be pretty effective vs some greedy decks. And of course Urza's Saga tutoring for your rack is pretty banger. Also here's an idea, Aether Vial for Augur of Skulls during upkeep? Probably not the best thing for this deck but in another build maybe!
