Would Celestial Dawn combo with Emeria, the Sky Ruin?

Asked by GorehoundABB 9 years ago

Since Celestial Dawn turns all the land I would control into Plains, would this effect would be able to synergize with Emeria, The Sky Ruin ?

No, because Celestial Dawn would also turn Emeria, The Sky Ruin into a Plains, causing it to lose all of its abilities and gain "Tap: Add W to your mana pool."

Note that playing an Emeria will still enter tapped while Celestial Dawn in in play, because that "enters tapped" ability modifies how it enters the battlefield and applies before the Celestial Dawn can apply to the land.

Note also that Emeria retains its name (for the purpose of cards like Extraplanar Lens ).

In order for them to synergize, Celestial Dawn would need to say "are Plains in addition to their other types." rather than simply "are Plains."

No. If you notice the wording on Celestial Dawn it changes the type of the land to Plain, does not just grant the Plain type in addition to other types. This means in effect that all of your lands loose all of their abilities and gain "tap: add one white mana to your manapool" ability. This includes Emeria, The Sky Ruin and so the ability on Emeria will never trigger. Notice however that even if Celestial Dawn was on the battlefield before you played Emeria, Emeria will still enter the battlefield tapped.
