Who can pay mana costs in a Two-Headed Giant game?

Asked by BubbleMahn 9 years ago

Let's say I cast a Tome Scour , but one of my opponents plays a Mindstatic in response. If I don't have enough mana left to pay the cost of 6 or counter it, can the other player on my team pay the cost for me? Would we both be able to pay portions of the mana cost? Since I control the spell, wouldn't I be the only one to pay the mana cost?

The only things teams share are life totals and turns. All other resources, including libraries, permanents, mana, etc., are individual and may only be used individually.

Additionally, you're correct in noting that Mindstatic specifies controller, so only you, as the controller of Mindstatic 's target spell, may pay the optional cost. Do note, however, that "mana cost" is used specifically to refer to the collection of symbols in the upper right corner of a card. You're being asked to pay an optional cost, not a mana cost. It's a minor distinction in most cases, but one worth making for the sake of accuracy.

Thanks, and I appreciate the distinction between 'mana cost' and 'optional cost', I forgot about that.
