when is the priority lost in order to check for life totals?

Asked by Chino90 8 years ago

I use Wall of Blood activated ability and drop my life to 0, then i sacrifice a Tainted Sigil to recover it. Do i lose inmediatly when i reach 0 life, or can i recover it before that is checked?

What happens if my opponent plays an instant in between? Would that count as losing priority, independently of the instant's effect?

What are some examples of losing priority?

Once you finish activating the final instance of Wall of Blood's ability, state-based actions will be performed and you'll lose the game. You won't even have the opportunity to activate Tainted Sigil's ability much less resolve it.

And you don't "lose priority" in the sense that you seem to suggest. Priority is the right to cast spells and activate abilities. By default, the active player gets priority when a step begins. If the active player passes priority to the next player in the turn order, that player now has priority. If all players pass in succession over an empty stack, the game moves to the next step. If all players pass in succession over a spell or ability, that spell or ability resolves.

Players can't cast spells or activate abilities without priority. Your opponent can't just cast an instant and cause you to "lose priority."

State-based actions are performed before any player gains priority, whether from a priority pass, the start of the next step or phase, or the resolution of a spell or ability.

Thank you, Epochalyptik ! Always at the rescue of my questions! That clarifies 2 doubts i had.

Since you are here, i'll tsle advantage and ask: if i had an Angel's Grace on the stack, and by some reason i go into negative life. If my opponent casts a damaging spell( say Lightning Bolt): would i go back to 1 life?

9/25/2006 If your life total goes below 1, being dealt damage will not increase it back up to 1.

Also, nobody can cast anything while angel's grace is on the stack. It has to resolve first due to split second.

You can go to gatherer.wizards.com and look up cards to see the rulings on that card. The above dated info, was copied from there.

Most of the cards that are on Tappedout have links to their gatherer page. There is a link that says "view at gatherer".
