When does an attacking creature stop being an attacking creature?

Settle the Wreckage exiles all 'attacking' creatures target player controls. While it's often played as soon as attackers are declared, how long do I have to play it in a turn?
Do the attackers remain attackers until the end of combat? Until the end of the turn? Or just in the Declare Attackers phase?
For example, could I swing with 3 creatures, they go unblocked, I allow them to do combat damage, and then on the End of Combat step I cast Settle the Wreckage to exile them and pick up some lands I need.
Or in the scenario above, I have my 3 creatures attack, do combat damage, and wait until end of turn phase before casting settle. Are those 3 still attacking?
thnx

They stay attacking until the combat step ends. You have until the End of Combat step to make the play described in your question. If you wait until the Post-Combat Main phase or later then they aren't considered "attacking" anymore and it won't work.
