When can I cast cards selected for Master of Predicaments ability?

Asked by RobinSong 9 years ago

When Master of Predicaments deals combat damage and I select a card and my opponent guesses wrong, when can I cast the free spell?

Do I have to do it as soon as they guess wrong? Or during my second main? Does it matter what type of spell I chose(i.e. instant/sorcery)? Can I cast another spell and then let it resolve before casting the free one?

You would have to cast the card as soon as the ability was finished resolving. Or rather you would need to add it to that stack during the resolution for it to be cast once Master of Predicaments ability was finished. It does not say "until the end of turn" therefore you would have to either cast it then or not at all. Note that the spell can be anything and the ability allows you to ignore the usual time restrictions on spells like sorcery and creatures.

When an effect tells you to cast a spell and doesn't specify a window of time for casting it ("this turn", "for as long as it's exiled", etc.), it means you cast it during the resolution of that effect. Note that "cast" means "put it onto the stack, make all the choices, and pay all the costs" (Master of Predicaments gives you a pass on the mana cost). If you want to make a response before it actually starts resolving, you're allowed to do that.
