What's the difference?

What's the difference between Flame Spill and Super-Duper Death Ray? It seems like they shouldn't have different wording, because it looks like they do the exact same thing. Even the rarity and card type is the same.

A side comment: Silver-bordered "Un" sets are meant to play around with things that the regular game of MtG can't do, but sometimes a card or mechanic will inspire a designer to realize it actually can be done. The development of Host/Augment helping to inspire the development of Mutate is probably the #1 example. Single card examples like Super-Duper Death Ray -> Flame Spill and The Cheese Stands Alone -> Barren Glory also exist.

Other than name, the set that they were printed in (and format legality because of this), and things that might care about the keyword "Trample" (most of which refer to creatures though), there is no functional difference.
In fact, the wording on Trample recently got a change that using the "excess damage" templating".
