What if my opponent and I both control a Platinum Angel.

Asked by Nef 9 years ago

So.. my deck has no removal and my opponent controls a Platinum Angel .
I am using an illusion deck and I have a Lord of the Unreal and a Phantasmal Image copy of lord of the unreal. I now have a phantasmal copy of Platinum Angel .. is the game a tie...?

No. Your opponent could remove your copy (Wrath of God effects or removing Lord of the Unreal and targeting your Angel). If he can't, there is always the possibility of one of you being decked.

If you know you have no answer for his Angel, you can concede the game to proceed to the next one faster.

Being decked doesn't cause us to lose.
I made his deck so I know he has no field wipe.

@hyperlocke: Decking out would constitute a loss, which is prevented by Platinum Angel 's ability.

The game will continue unless one effect is removed, a player concedes, is forced to lose by a judge penalty for illegal play, or the players tie.

Note that a player is not forced to remove one of the Platinum Angel s, even if he or she has the option to do so.

Oh right, sorry for that.

The game only automatically ends in a draw if it gets into a loop of mandatory actions that won't end on its own. Your situation isn't one of those. Even in a tournament setting, no one can force either player to concede in this situation. As long as each player continues taking their actions at a reasonable pace, the game continues and no one is doing anything wrong.
