What happens when Volcano Hellion gets lifelink?

Let's say I soulbond Volcano Hellion to nearhearth pilgrim and deal 380,000 to me and my Boros Reckoner . Do I die before I gain the life, or do I gain the life before state-based actions are checked?

Lifelink is a static ability, so you gain life as the damage is dealt. You wouldn't lose. In fact, you'd gain life equal to twice the amount of damage being dealt, since damage is being dealt twice to different targets.

That's actually rather clever... Lifelink does not use the stack so you would gain it back immediately before state based actions are checked.
Props for that.

GoldGhost012 in the example if he targets Boros Reckoner he wins the game. (Assuming that he sends the 380,000 at the other player.)

Yep. Why wouldn't he throw that 380,000 damage at his opponent? What else is he going to target, himself? "I'm choosing 380,000 damage to be dealt to me and my Boros Reckoner -" opponent lifts hand to begin to scoop- "who deals 380,000 to me." "Wait, WHHHAAATTTTT???????"

Yes that works.
Lifelink is a static ability that changes the way damage is dealt. With lifelink, "damage" is replaced with "Damage and you gain that much life" as the way damage is dealt.
Contrast this with the older (and still occasionally in use) version of what lifelink used to be on Armadillo Cloak where instead it is a triggered ability that triggers on damage being dealt, in which case you'd die before you gained the life.

When I first saw Volcano Hellion, I reread the card a couple times to make sure I read it right. In my opinion, Volcano Hellion is extremely OP because it literally has the ability to do an amount of damage OF YOUR CHOICE built into it, which is just begging to be abused. I really like your idea. I might make a Volcano Hellion just to play casually.
