What happens when an egg created by Alta Palani dies, if Alta palani isn’t on the field?

Asked by KhorneRising 3 years ago

The card you're looking to link is Atla Palani, Nest Tender, just for reference.

What exactly did you use on Atla Palani in commander? "Modify" doesn't turn up anything. Was it Mortify, perhaps?

Atla Palani, Nest Tender needs to be on the battlefield when the eggs die in order for her ability to trigger. If Atla Palani is not on the battlefield when the eggs die, then their controller doesn't get to reveal cards. The eggs just die (and then, because they're tokens, cease to exist).

Also important to note: the triggered ability is part of Atla Palani, not the egg tokens she makes, which is why nothing happens if Atla Palani is not on the battlefield when the eggs die.

Related to this, it doesn't have to be one of Atla Palani's egg tokens necessarily in order to trigger her ability; any creature with the type "Egg" will trigger it. At the moment, this includes Dragon Egg, Ludevic's Test Subject  Flip, Mysterious Egg, Roc Egg, Rukh Egg, Summoner's Egg, and Chicken Egg if playing with Un-set cards, as well as anything with "all creature types" like the various Changelings and Mistform Ultimus. (Not all of the listed cards show "Egg" on the type line, but the Oracle text in the Gatherer includes it.)
