What constitutes as a +1/+1 counter?

Asked by battleborn 9 years ago

Obviously, if a card states "+1/+1 counter," it's a counter, but what if a card just says "creatures you control get +1/+1"? As in Spear of Heliod . I want to make sure before I play cards like that with all the abzan "creatures you control with a+1/+1 counter get flying, lifelink, death touch, first strike, trample, etc."

If it doesn't say counter, it isn't a counter. Spear of heliod gives a boost to power and toughness with its static ability, but does not add counters.

Don't overthink it. "Obviously, if a card states '+1/+1 counter,' it's a counter." That's literally the answer to your question. If it doesn't say "counter," it isn't one.

Thanks guys. I just wasn't sure if they ran out of space and it was implied. I knew that deck idea was too good to be true lol
