What abilities stay active in the graveyard?

Asked by Darthagnon 8 years ago

e.g. Bloodsoaked Champion's ability stays active in the graveyard, by necessity. Same goes for Flashback cards.

1) Does Battle Brawler's "+1/+0 and first strike if you control a red or white permanent" stay active when he's in the graveyard?

2) Noobish and contrary to common sense, but... does Chief of the Edge's Warrior lord ability stay active when in the graveyard (NB it doesn't give a specific condition that stops its ability...)? If not, and it is destroyed, does its Warrior lord ability stop immediately?

3) Does Aegis of the Gods's Hexproof stop as soon as it is destroyed?

In general, abilities on permanents are only usable (or apply, in the case of static abilities) only when they are on the battlefield. Ergo, if it is not mentioned, it works only on the battlefield. Thus, cards like Bloodsoaked Champion need to mention the graveyard, but for Chief of the Edge or Battle Brawler, "battlefield" is implied and the only valid zone in which it works.

Otherwise, what is stopping those cards from working while in your hand or your library?

1/ NO, only when he is on the field.

2/ No, only when she is on the field. Yes, immediately when she is put in the grave.

3/ yes, for similar reasons as above.
