untap phase when you are controlled

Asked by Djmikewhite 8 years ago

so my buddy used Sorin Markov's -7 ability to control my turn. What I was wondering was if he can "forget" to untap my land and creatures during untap phase, or if that is an automatic function that cant be stopped.

This is also in a casual, just trying to clarify for future games.

its automatic, but somethings allow you to choose whether or not you untap them. either way when they used Markovs -7 they can just tap your lands without using the mana.

The active player determines (not decides) which permanents controlled by that player untaps, then untaps all those permanents simultaneously. (The player will untap all permanents he or she controls unless a card effect prevents this.)

The point is that your opponent still has to follow all the rules of the game while controlling you. They can cause you to make astonishingly bad plays, but they can't break rules. Your permanents will untap as normal during your untap step.
