Ulcerate vs Assault Griffin

When Ulcerate is played against Assault Griffin is assault griffin destroyed, or simply incapacitated till the end of the turn?

Ulcerate will give Assault Griffin -3/-3, making it a 0/-1. The next time state based actions are checked, the Griffin will die sine it has 0 or less toughness.
