Thelon+Pendelhaven elder

Asked by CheeseBro 8 years ago

say i have a Thelon of Havenwood, Thallid, and Pendelhaven Elder out on the field. Thallid has a few counters on it. if i tap Pendelhaven Elder, would [[thallid get +1/+2 because it is a base power toughness 1/1 or would it not because it is physically not a 1/1?

The game sees it's P/T as 3/3 since that is effectively what it is. The base power and toughness only matter in certain situations, so as a straight up answer to your question, Pendelhaven Elder would NOT bump him. However, if you had 3 spore counters, you could remove them, make a 1/1, THEN use the elder to pump them up.

Effects that check a characteristic only care about the value of those characteristics at the time they are checked, not how they've been modified. Because of Thelon of Havenwood, Thallid is not a 1/1 when Pendelhaven Elder's ability checks so it will not get +1/+2.

110.3 A nontoken permanents characteristics are the same as those printed on its card, as modified by any continuous effects.

608.2h If an effect refers to certain characteristics, it checks only for the value of the specified characteristics, regardless of any related ones an object may also have.
