Sword of the Animist and Gideon, Ally of Zendikar

Asked by Argy 8 years ago

If I attach Sword of the Animist to Gideon, Ally of Zendikar while he is a Creature, what happens to the equipment when he turns back into a Planeswalker?

The Equipment becomes unattached from Gideon (because Equipment can only be attached to creatures), but remains on the battlefield, so it can be attached to another creature (possibly an animated Gideon again) in the future.

The Equipment will fall off/unequip from Gideon due to him no longer being a creature.

If you turn him into a creature on your next turn; you must repay the equip cost.

It becomes unattached. Equip is a keyword that specifies a creature and Gideon, Ally of Zendikar will not be a creature after your turn ends.

704.5p If an Equipment or Fortification is attached to an illegal permanent, it becomes unattached from that permanent. It remains on the battlefield.

Equip
A keyword ability that lets a player attach an Equipment to a creature he or she controls. See rule 301, Artifacts, and rule 702.6, Equip.
