Soul-Scar Mage + Firesong And Sunspeaker

Do you lose the lifelink from burn spells if you have both out?

next time, link the cards in your question.

Soul-Scar Mage

Firesong and Sunspeaker

if a red instant or sorcery would deal damage to a creature your opponent controls while you have both out, then yes you would lose the lifelink. notice how Soul-Scar Mage says "instead". this means damage is not dealt. therefore, no lifelink.

A minor caveat: Your red instants and sorceries still have lifelink. They can still deal damage to players, planeswalkers, and creatures you control, so you will gain life from that damage. They functionally loose lifelink when targeting creatures your opponents control; they still have it, but they deal no damage so there's no life to be gained from it.

The distinction I made is important for cases like Earthquake, where you deal damage to many creatures and players. Lifelink is not "lost," it simply no longer applies to the cases of your opponents creatures since damage is replaced. The damage Earthquake would do to you, your opponent, and your own creatures is still affected by lifelink.
