Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker and Dredge

Had my friend pull this combo yesterday: So, Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker , Stinkweed Imp , and Vampiric Rites are on the field. Stinkweed Imp is sacrificed to use Vampiric Rites ability to gain life and draw, however he chooses to dredge the Stinkweed Imp he sacrificed to return it to his hand. Does Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker return Stinkweed Imp to the battlefield from his hand?

He wouldn't "return" from your opponent's hand, no. Shirei only specifically returns creatures from the graveyard to play. If the Imp leaves the graveyard before the trigger happens, Shirei has no idea where he ended up.

To be clear, refer to ruling #400.7: "An object that moves from one zone to another becomes a new object with no memory of, or relation to, its previous existence."
