Sentinel of the Eternal Watch vs Grimgrin, Corpse-Born

Asked by carpecanum 8 years ago

If Sentinel of the Eternal Watch taps Grimgrin, Corpse-Born at the start of combat, can Grimgrin then untap and attack anyway? Do attacking creatures need to be untapped at the start of combat, before attackers are declared?

A potential attacker only needs to be untapped (and not summoning sick) as the declare attackers step starts. What happens in the beginning of combat step is somewhat irrelevant as long as it doesn't ultimately change whether the creature is tapped going into the declare attackers step.

So if Grimgrin, Corpse-Born is tapped in the beginning of combat step, you can activate its ability to untap it and have it ready to attack.
