Scion of the Ur-Dragon with conspiracy

Asked by dragonrider23 9 years ago

I have been trying to figure out if Scion of the Ur-Dragon combined with Conspiracy can target Progenitus. Then using the same combo, can i grab Blightsteel Colossus which will then trigger his ability and return to the deck I assume? I think I should be able to target Progenitus because abilities aren't active till the creature is in play unless stated otherwise.

Scion of the Ur-Dragon's ability doesn't target anything. A spell of ability only targets if it uses the word "target."

You can copy Progenitus because Scion of the Ur-Dragon's ability doesn't do anything that protection stops.

Also, when Scion of the Ur-Dragon becomes a copy of something, it loses its original ability to copy things. You would need to wait until it regains the ability or respond to any instances of the ability on the stack.

Blightsteel Colossus doesn't have a triggered ability. It has a replacement effect. If you copy it, it will be shuffled into your deck rather than be put into your graveyard.

awesome, thanks! I understood the ability is a once per turn deal.

Well, it isn't strictly once per turn. You can activate the ability multiple times in response to something (including in response to itself). Scion of the Ur-Dragon loses its copy ability once it becomes a copy of something, but any instances of the ability that are still on the stack will still resolve.

wow...didnt really think about that. This deck is all about throwing stuff into the graveyard that i want just to bring it back with cheap instants/sorcery/ or enchantments. Then I have Sheoldred, Whispering One and Reya Dawnbringer to bring them to the battlefield, so the quicker they end up in the graveyard the better!

Most people run Scion of the Ur-Dragon for the Moltensteel Dragon + Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon pick. Not sure if you knew about that one.

Basically, you activate Scion of the Ur-Dragon's ability twice. The first resolution copies Moltensteel Dragon, and you activate the buff ability six times. The second resolution copies Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon, leaving you with a 10/10 flying infect.

ah, i heard about that combo but didn't see what people were doing with it. I only play casual with a group of friends and we all agree that winning by cheap plays such as infect make the game not as much fun. Thanks for the info on it though!
