Sakashima / East Tree

Asked by Mishras_Workshop 3 years ago

Would love a judge to explain the interaction between Kodama of the East Tree and Sakashima of a Thousand Faces if Sakashima is copy of Kodama.

Will this create a loop that dumps all cards of a specific permanent type from your hand since they are technically 2 different effects?

Side Note to Admins: I accidently posted this to the EDH Forum and don't know how to delete it, I'm sorry

Not a Judge, but I fairly positive that provided the permanent in your hand has a lower (or equal) CMC than the one that just entered, yes, it would loop in the way you have described.

You are correct that this will create a loop allowing you to dump all the permanents of a certain type, with a CMC less than the initially-played permanent, onto the field.

Here is how the stack looks:

  1. You have both Kodama-Original and Kodama-Copy on the field. When a permanent ETBs, both will trigger and go on the stack. You can order the triggers in any way you want, though the actual ordering is irrelevant. For the example, we will say Kodama-Original resolves first.

  2. Kodama-Original resolves first, and you can place a permanent of lesser or equal CMC onto the battlefield. This will trigger Kodama-Copy. That trigger will be next to resolve, allowing you to put a permanent of lesser or equal CMC onto the field. This will trigger Kodama-Original, and so on and so on, until you decide to stop or you run out of permanents of that type with a lesser CMC.

So long as your first ETB was the largest CMC permanent of that type (or tied for the largest), you will be able to play every permanent of that type that you have in your hand.

Caerwyn Thank you for the detailed explanation, and closing my post on the other forum =D. I completely skipped the cmc requirement, so I will keep that in mind for my future shenanigans.

Since this works, I would just like to point out that this dumps every single land in your hand, have fun hyper ramping.

With those in play, any way of putting your library into your hand like Enter the Infinite would make a crazy turn.

Note that Kodama of the East Tree's ability doesn't restrict you to putting a permanent of the same type onto the battlefield. It can be any type of permanent, it just needs to have an equal or lesser CMC to the previous one.

It would also be crazy in wheel decks. Can just keep dumping, wheel & draw, then dump again. The whole time you will be emptying out your opponent's libraries while you fill the board with your win conditions.
