Sacrificing while blocking

So I was playing my friend's zombie deck and he had a Festering Goblin out while I had a Brindle Boar out. He attacked with the goblin and I blocked with Brindle Boar . Is it possible to sacrifice my Brindle Boar after combat damage, but before Festering Goblin 's -1/-1 ability takes affect and kills it?

Yes. Festering Goblin 's ability is a triggered ability, which means it uses the stack. You can respond to the ability by sacrificing Brindle Boar . If Festering Goblin 's ability was targeting Brindle Boar , Festering Goblin 's ability will fizzle.

Thank you, I thought that was how it would work but sometimes little thing like this get us confused, and the four life might actually be relevant.
