Sacrifice then regenerate?

Asked by SteezeOrtiz 7 years ago

If I sacrifice Augur of Skulls, can I use his ability to regenerate him?

Can you regenerate a creature that has been sacrificed?

You can't replace sacrifice with regeneration. This is because regeneration only replaces the event of a creature being destroyed, not the event of a creature dieing.

In addition, on the card you linked, sacrificing the creature is a cost. Once you announce that you want to activate the ability, you have to go through all steps involved until you put it on the stack, which includes paying costs. So you will sacrifice the Augur to pay for the ability, and once it's on the stack and players could cast spells or activate abilities (such as the regeneration one), Augur of Skulls will already be in your graveyard (in this case, since the regeneration ability comes from the very same card, it wouldn't even be available to activate anymore).
