Rules clarification about Iroas, God of Victory final ability.

Asked by mtgirem 9 years ago

It reads "prevent all damage that would be dealt to attacking creatures you control". Is this only during combat? They are no longer attacking creatures during the post combat main phase? So a sorcery like Blasphemous Act if cast during the post combat main phase would destroy all creatures that attacked as well?

Or am I misunderstanding the wording of it?

Any help is appreciated

From the Comp Rules:

506.4. ... A creature that's removed from combat stops being an attacking, blocking, blocked, and/or unblocked creature. ...

511.3. As soon as the end of combat step ends, all creatures and planeswalkers are removed from combat.

Iroas, God of Victory 's damage prevention ability applies only to creatures that are attacking. As long as one of your creatures is attacking Iroas will prevent all damage to it, including non-combat damage, but after combat those creatures are no longer attacking and Iroas's prevention effect will not apply.

No, you got it right the first time. Creatures are only considered attacking or blocking in the combat phase. They are no longer doing so in the main phase.

So if you cast Blasphemous Act after the combat step, the creatures will cry out for Iroas, God of Victory to save them.

And he will look down, and whisper:

"No"
