Reality Scramble with self sacrificing artifacts.

Asked by koylucumert 4 years ago

lets say i have a Mindslaver on the field and cast reality scramble targetting it. then in response to that i sac my mindslaver. do i still get to do the bringing the first artifact from my deck thing? because reality scramble doesnt say "if you do" and doesnt Chaos Warp have a similar effect where if you warp someones commander and they put it in their command zone they still get to reveal the top and put it on the field. is it the same case. also lets ask a similar question. can i sac my mindslaver in response to a chaor warp and still get to reveal the top?

No. Reality Scramble and Chaos Warp both target the permanent. Thus, if something happens to it between casting and resolution of the spell, the spell will fizzle due to lack of legal targets.

Targeting the commander and replacing the shuffle/put on the bottom of the deck effect does not interfere with targeting. The correct target was chosen, it is just using a replacement effect for the shuffle/put on the bottom of the deck effect of those cards. Mindslaver does not benefit from that effect.

To add on to what Boza said, if someone were to sacrifice their commander in response to a Chaos Warp , they would not get the reveal effect, as their commander is no longer on the battlefield when Chaos Warp goes to resolve, and thus it fizzles. The same logic applies to both situations.

First off, i'm new to MtG, so please feel free to correct me if i'm wrong but;

I'd allow Mindslaver + Reality Scramble but it would have to be played specifically;

First Turn of Combo - Play Mindslaver

Second Turn - Trigger Mindslaver ability, Mindslaver goes to Graveyard. Play Reality Scramble , Target Mindslaver in your graveyard. ( Reality Scramble targets "permanent you own" you still own Mindslaver , even though it is in your graveyard.)

Now... assuming Mindslaver is the only Artifact your have in your deck, you would then reveal card until you got down to Mindslaver then place Mindslaver back on the battlefield. for the "random order" bit i'd just have the player shuffle their deck.

also.. if you were running a blue/red deck with that combo... i'd recommend a few Clear the Mind cards in there.

Mindslaver -> Reality Scramble -> Clear the Mind Rinse and Repeat.

Kichirou: Reality Scramble can't target cards that are in the graveyard. Mindslaver is not a permanent while it's in the graveyard.

Kichirou: an object is only a "permanent" on the battlefield. On the stack it's a "spell" and anywhere else it's a "card." As Tyrant-Thanatossaid, Mindslaver is not a permanent while in the graveyard. It's a card. Reality Scramble can only target objects on the battlefield.
