Raving Dead and Strionic Resonator

If I damage an opponent with Raving Dead and then copy its ability with Strionic Resonator does the effect reduce my opponent's life by half, and then half again? Say. in Commander, go from 40 to 20, then 20 to 10?

Yes. The trigger goes on the stack, you copy it. The copy resolves first. Your opponent's life is 40, so he loses half. Then the original ability resolves, Your opponent is at 20, so he loses half.

Remember to factor in the combat damage that Raving Dead actually deals. In your specific example you actually end up in the same place (40 -> 38 -> 19 -> 10), but there are some circumstances where the end result will be different.
