Rally the Righteous dilemma

Asked by Brutal_B 4 years ago

My wife's only creature, Zurgo Helmsmasher, is tapped and I attack with all mine as a last swing before she takes me out with commander damage. One of my attacking creatures is Breya, Etherium Shaper. Wife casts Rally the Righteous, untapping Zurgo. Since Breya shares white, black and red with Zurgo does she untap as well? Or just the creatures on the side of the caster of Rally the Righteous?

Since Rally the Righteous doesn’t specify it only untaps creatures its controller controls, it will Untap any and all creatures on the battlefield that share a color with Zurgo Helmsmasher, as well as give them +2/+0

this situation is a bit confusing. if you know she can take you out with commander damage, then shouldn't you save a blocker? and unless one of your attackers (the one she intends to block) is mono blue (assuming breya is your commander) then even a creature with base value 0 will kill a blocking Zurgo after the +2/+0 buff. so unless your wife had 7 mana (or absolutely needed to block to survive) then it kinda seems like you both made misplays.

Misplays don't change the rules of the game.

It is also a good idea to assume that there may be things going on in the hypothetical that are not relevant to the question that were omitted. In reality the question asked is "does Rally the Righteous untap all creatures that share a color with the target, or only creatures that are controlled by the same player?" There is really no need for commentary on lines of play or that it is an awesomely dickish move to even play Breya against Zurgo since she can kill him at instant speed with her ability.

Gidgetimer: i guess its a good thing then that nobody said misplays change the rules of the game? the rules Q and A isn't "just" about the rules. its about becoming a better player in general. if i think i can help someone with strategy and tactics i will. its also kinda rude of you to call Brutal_B a "dick" just because he played breya against zurgo. his wife was apparently ok with it. and if theres no need to comment on playing breya against zurgo...then why did you comment on it?
