Question about Cancel and Reverberate

Asked by The_Kazekyo 9 years ago

Let's say i cast anything like a simple creature then my opponent responds with a Cancel , can i use a Reverberate to copy his cancel to stop his cancel? Doesn't his Cancel goes to the stack first therefore resolving first?

You can counter a counterspell with a copy of the counterspell. The copy goes on top of the stack and resolves before the original, countering the original counterpsell.

Why does the copy goes on top of the stack?

What FancyTuesday said is correct. You can always respond to a counterspell with a spell or ability of your own. The only exception to this is when a spell with split second is on the stack.

From Gatherer:

When Reverberate resolves, it creates a copy of a spell. You control the copy. That copy is created on the stack, so it's not "cast." Abilities that trigger when a player casts a spell won't trigger. The copy will then resolve like a normal spell, after players get a chance to cast spells and activate abilities.

So you have the creature spell, then Cancel . Cancel has not resolved so it is on top of the stack. Then you respond with Reverberate meaning that is now on top of the stack with Cancel and the Creature under it. Reverberate creates the copy and that copy is then placed on the stack, on top of Cancel and the Creature spell. The copy, being on top, is the first to resolve and counters Cancel, leaving only the Creature spell.
