Question about a new Battlebond card

Asked by belugawhaleonthefloor 5 years ago

I don’t know if this card name will show up yet but this question is about Najeela, the Blade-Blossom. I’m kind of confused about the timing of the “when _ attacks” triggers. Like let’s say I attack with Najeela and also Grand Warlord Radha, creating two more warrior tokens from Najeela tapped and attacking. Would I add four mana to my pool from all four attacking creatures, or does that trigger before I get the tokens, making me only get two mana. Like since they both say “when _ attack”, which triggers first?

They trigger at the same time, and because of that you get to decide what order to put them onto the stack. However, you still only get 2 mana either way because of the way this works. "When (a creature) attacks" abilities trigger when you declare the creature as an attacker. Because the tokens are just put onto the battlefield attacking without being declared as attackers, they don't trigger those kinds of abilities. This is important, otherwise Najeela's ability would hang the game in an infinite loop of token-making.

If the wording was slightly different on Grand Warlord Radha, then you would be able to get 4 mana from your proposed attack.

The wording would have to be: "Whenever one or more creatures you control attack, add mana of (R) or (G) to your mana pool equal to the number of attacking creatures you control" You would then be able to stack Radha's trigger first, allowing your commander's trigger to resolve first, changing the number of attacking creatures from 2 to 4.

As it is worded now...you only get 2 mana regardless because it checks how many creatures were DELCARED attacking, and not how many are actually attacking.
