'Protection Question'
Asked by magnetcrocodile 9 years ago
Q: Let's say I cast Gods Willing on my Runeclaw Bear in response to my opponent casting Utter End on it. I give my Runeclaw Bear protection against , does it makes the Utter End obsolete? or it still works since Utter End have 2 color?
The protection works. It doesn't matter how many other colors a spell or creature is, only if it has the quality that the protection lists. It is either white or not. The Utter End will "fizzle" for having no legal target.

thanks for confirming that.
Another case: The opponent has Fleecemane Lion on the field, and I cast Gods Willing to give my Runeclaw Bear protection to before attacking. Then I proceed to attack. Can he block with his Fleecemane Lion?
I'll assume he can't(?)

No, he cannot. Remember DEBT (Damage, Enchanted/Equipped. Blocked, Targeted). Protection stops all these things, but nothing else.

Utter End is a white card. The fact that it also happens to be a black card doesn't stop protection from white from nullifying it.
