Protection From Black and Field Effects

I was thinking about running the card Harbinger of Night in my Haptra, Vizier of Poisons deck. But because it gives -1/-1 counters on each creature, including my own, in 3 turns the majority of my creatures would be dead. Which I see more of a downside than anything. So lets say I put down Akroma's Memorial, would all creatures I control, including Harbringer of Night, not get -1/-1 counters each upkeep?

Protection does 4 very specific things. It prevents the following:
Damage from a source with the stated quality
Enchanted/equipped/fortified by sources with the stated quality
Blocked by sources with the stated quality
Targeting by sources with the stated quality
Since the counters Harbinger provides does none of these things, protection won't prevent them.
