Pod interactions (Finks into Angel)

Asked by Kjartan 9 years ago

Sacrificing Kitchen Finks to activate a Birthing Pod and find Restoration Angel. Will the finks return to the battlefield in time for me to flicker it?

Yes it will. The Pod's ability will go on the stack then the persist ability will go onto the stack. Persist will resolve first return finks and then you can get Resto Angel and blink finks.

In general, when an ability triggers while you're casting a spell or activating an ability, the triggered ability will wait until a player receives priority. At that time, it will be put onto the stack above the spell or ability for which it triggered. Because the stack resolves from the top down, the triggered ability will resolve first.

I do not completely understand the explanation for the menac given here though, (granted I'm happy I get one)

I Activate the Pods ability, sacking Finks, it seems to me like I now have two abilities waiting to go onto the stack simultaneously, why is the finks trigger is on top of the stack?

The Pod's ability is already on the stack when the Persist trigger goes on (triggers get added the next time you have priority, which doesn't happen while you are paying costs) The Persist ability has to resolve or be removed before Pod's can (as it is now the topmost object on the stack). After Pod's ability resolves, fetching the angel, the angel's ETB trigger goes onto the stack.

The only time you can have multiple abilities waiting to go onto the stack is when they're all triggered abilities.

Remember that the first step in casting a spell or activating an ability is announcing that object and putting it onto the stack. The spell or activated ability will already be on the stack at the time the triggered ability triggers. Triggered abilities wait until you're finished with the casting, activation, or resolution process or with a turn-based action before they go to the stack. In short, they're put onto the stack the next time a player receives priority, which is just after Birthing Pod's ability has been activated.
