pearl lake ancient and destructor Dragon interaction.

If my opponent attempts to return three lands to her hand to return a Pearl Lake Ancient as well, and I have a Destructor Dragon on board, can I kill it to destroy a land that was being returned to her hand? Does that prevent the ability from succeeding?

No. Returning the lands is the cost to activate Pearl Lake Ancient's ability, and costs can't be responded to. Further, once your opponent announces that she's activating Pearl Lake Ancient's ability, players lose priority until the end of the activation process. You cant do anything until the lands are gone.
