When choosing a creature type for Obelisk of Urd can I choose artifact creature? I'm not real clear on whether or not artifact creature is a creature type

I actually got in an argument over this topic once. Artifact creature is not a nameable type with this card. However, in the case of "Artifact creature - Myr", you could name Myr as this creature type.

No. Artifact is a type. Creature types are all subtypes, and therefore appear after a dash in the type line.
