No Rest for the Wicked after discarding in end phase

Asked by Quickspell 1 year ago

In my end phase, during my cleanup step and after having discarded to reduce to my allowed hand size, do I get priority again to activate No Rest for the Wicked? Say I use Secret Salvage to fetch all my Shadowborn Apostles and then discard them, can I get them back to hand?

Unless a triggered ability triggered or an SBA needs performed, no player receives priority in the clean up step. If a player does receive priority in the cleanup step, there will be another cleanup step immediately following it.

514.3. Normally, no player receives priority during the cleanup step, so no spells can be cast and no abilities can be activated. However, this rule is subject to the following exception:

514.3a At this point, the game checks to see if any state-based actions would be performed and/or any triggered abilities are waiting to be put onto the stack (including those that trigger “at the beginning of the next cleanup step”). If so, those state-based actions are performed, then those triggered abilities are put on the stack, then the active player gets priority. Players may cast spells and activate abilities. Once the stack is empty and all players pass in succession, another cleanup step begins.

An additional note, No Rest for the Wicked says "put into the graveyard from play". This means went from the battlefield to the graveyard and does not include discarded cards. Updated oracle text says "Return to your hand all creature cards in your graveyard that were put there from the battlefield this turn."
