Can I use Sylvan Scrying to fetch a double sided card such as Valakut Awakening  ^Flip because one side is a land. or do I treat the card as an instant because side one is shows on the card while it’s in the library?

Can I discard Valakut Awakening  ^Flip land side up with Molten Vortex?

In all zones besides the Stack and the Battlefield all double-faced cards have only the characteristics of the front face. This means that you can non search a MDFC with a land tutor unless the front face is a land (like the Pathways). You also will not be able to discard a MDFC unless the front face matches the requirements for the discarded card.

712.4a While a double-faced card is outside the game or in a zone other than the battlefield or stack, it has only the characteristics of its front face.
