Master of Etherium and Ensoul Artifact

I have seen a few questions on here before dealing with Ensoul Artifact most just dealing with the initial properties of the card such as flying, trample, etc.. but what about when I enchant my Master of Etherium with Ensoul Artifact ? Is the new base a 5/5 then he gets +1/+1 for each artifact in play or does the ability cancel out once he is enchanted, and he stays a 5/5.

This has to do with layering which is rule 613. Both of these apply in layer 7, but layer 7 has sublayers and the relevant ones are:

613.3a Layer 7a: Effects from characteristic-defining abilities that define power and/or toughness are applied. See rule 604.3.

613.3b Layer 7b:Effects that set power and/or toughness to a specific number or value are applied.Effects that refer to the base power and/or toughness of a creature apply in this layer.

They apply in order so 7a applies setting Master of Etherium 's power via his characteristic-defining ability. And then 7b applies resetting it to 5 from the Ensoul Artifact . This leaves him as a 5/5

Alright that makes perfect sense, puts a damper on what I wanted to happen of course, but oh well thanks a lot dude!
